Dear OT Practitioners and Students,
My name is Monique Dawes and I am an Occupational Therapist with Empower Spinal Cord Injury. We are a non-profit group that puts together two intensive 1-2 week community based rehab programs during the summer. We are 100% volunteer run and are looking to spread awareness about our program and recruit new OT practitioner and student volunteers.

For students, you can apply as residential aides and provided direct assistance to participates. You would help with transfers, ADLs, participation in programming, etc. Also as long as the participate doesn't mind, you are able to sit in on OT/PT sessions to observe evaluations, plans of care, and treatments for each participant. You are also able to participate in the adaptive sports sessions, such as, biking, kayaking, surfing, rugby, etc.

For practitioners, you can apply as a clinical specialist or a residential aide. As a clinical specialist you would be providing direct OT treatment for participants in 1:1 sessions and/or groups settings. You would be working on an interdisciplinary team with a PT, rehab councilor, peer mentor, and nursing. You do not necessarily need to have specific SCI experience as other OTs present will and are available to mentor and help with the process.

For the 2019 programming, we are looking for people for our 1 week pilot program in Missoula, MT June 9-15th and our primary 2 week program in Stony Brook, NY July 14-27th. For the 2 week program, it is possible to break up the time and complete either to 1st or 2nd week.
